Vicente López Portaña (1772/1850), Ritratto di Juan Gutiérrez de León (1840) Madrid, Museo Lázaro Galdiano
The priest is painted wearing a cassock and cape, over which he is wearing the grand crosses and sashes of the Orders of Isabella the Catholic Queen and the Chaplains of Honour, in addition to the medal of senator. López has executed the portrait with a sober, elegant simplicity, not often found in his "oeuvre", and the source of particular attraction that this painting holds. This is without doubt one of the best clerical portraits from the artist`s later years, painted at the age of 68.
